Nosebleeds are common, especially in the winter when air is dry, and people are more likely to have colds.

  • Sit up and lean forward.
  • Pinch your nostrils shut for 10 to 15 minutes and breathe through your mouth. If the bleeding doesn’t stop, pinch your nostrils for another 10 to 15 minutes.
  • If that doesn’t work, call your healthcare provider or come to Saratoga Hospital Urgent Care – Wilton.

When to seek medical care

  • If your nosebleed occurs after an accident, fall, or injury to your head or face.
  • If bleeding doesn’t stop after 20 to 30 minutes.
  • If you feel faint or lightheaded.

Remember: For serious and life-threatening injuries or illnesses, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
